2 problems with tomatoes
 

Looked great until last week. A few days before i sprayed with Actinovate...is it possible that the 87 degree temps after that fried them a little and if so will they recover?
Second problem...something must be eating some of the buds right off the plant..you can see where the buds/blossom stems are left, but the buds themselves are gone. Not all but just a few and mostly at the top half of the plant. These plants are in the middle of a large bed and not accessible to deer, etc. Anyone have a guess?

Could you be seeing blossom drop on those upper blooms?

Farmette, what do they look like now? You mentioned "fried"-- are leaves changing color, drying up, wilting or something else? If you could post some pics, I'm sure that some of the more knowledgeable folks here might be able to give you some ideas about what may be going on... they are awesome! :)

Sorry, I haven't responded sooner...I was delightfully interrupted by the early entrance of my newest grandchild. Beautiful birth, everyone is fine and now I have to face my tomatoes. I haven't had time to take pictures, but the blossom drop things sounds like a possibility...will research and look at my tomatoes to see if it fits. They had some spots on the leaves too and I picked off those leaves. The plants in pots on my deck look better now, but I will have to see about the rest.

Glad to hear that everyone is fine. As a grandfather, they are a lot more fun than than the first ones. Just wait til you can feed them chocolate and Mountain Dew, then send them home.:)

You've got that right! Well, I already have 2 grandchildren and today I stocked up on the Mountain Dew and chocolate chip cookies AND Hershey bars!!!
About my tomato problem though, how do I tell if I have too little nitrogen or too much...are the soil test kits out there reliable...I don't think I have time to send it in to be tested.

(The difference between nitrogen and iron deficiency is
that with nitrogen deficiency, the lower leaves turn yellow
first. With iron deficiency, you start to see lighter areas in
new leaves at the top of the plant and at the ends of branches.)

I have plants that get some yellowing on lower leaves, to the
point where they finally simply die, despite the plant having
plenty of nitrogen (I can tell by the color of the leaves on the
rest of the plant and how fast it is growing that it is not
deficient).
