What Pepper is This?
1 Attachment(s)
This pepper is from a bunch of seeds I received free with my order from Peppermania. It is very early to mature. The plant was startred in mid-December and started to produce pods in February. The heat level is medium for me. My best educated guess is that it might be an Inca Lost or a very small Chimayo...the pods are about 3 inches long. Any help with identifying this chili would be appreciated.
Thanks Alex |
The leaves look like an annuum, but the flowers are a better way to tell. And, those are unripe * delicate shudder *, you can't tell anything about flavor in an unripe pepper, and the heat often changes as the pepper ripens.

Blue, Thanks for the response. I do have pictures of ripe fruit and of the flowers, but the system would not download them...too big i think. I'll try again.

Hi Velikipop,
I am growing peppermania chilies too (also it's free pepper mix). I also have 3 chimayo growing in the greenhouse, they are loaded with immature chili pods. By comparing my chimayo pepper pod with yours, I think they are different. The chimayo have pretty thin flesh and yours seems to be with thicker flesh, but am really not sure ! Here is a picture of it. |
Tomaat,
Thanks. I think you are right about mine not being a chimayo. The two are different. The peculiar thing about mine is that it has that curve at the end. It almost looks like a cow horn. Alex |
Alex,
I am really unsure what it is, when a pepper form a bigger pod it tend to look a bit different from their siblings, my chimayo immatture pods are ranging from 3'' to 3.5'' and all pepper pods from 3 plants look the same (the are all grown in a green house)... so don't rule our the Chimayo yet. It could also be the inca lost ,but since we can't find out what the size of Inca lost chili pod, it is a bit unclear... This might sounds silly but have you tried e mailing Beth (of Peppermania)? She might be able to help ?? I have 4 plants from the Peppermania mixed seeds, 2 are C pubescens type and the other 2 are still unknown yet. Good luck with the id. |
Remember that once they're sold out of a variety, the Peppermania folks take it off the web site. You might have a variety that was pictured earlier in the season, but isn't up now.

I'm sure now that it is not Inca Lost. Mine is a bit to wide to be an Inca. Another possibility is Cirollo de Morales which is an annuum and looks like the pepper I have. I probably will have to inquire with the folks at Peppermania, but will wait because I have at least 5 other peppers from them I need to id.
