Trouble with one of four HMEB's planting

Hello everyone. We planted four boxes up about a month ago (our 3rd season for using them). We are experiencing an unusual happening with only one of the four, however. In the box that I planted a seedling of Cher. Purple (have grown it successfully two times) and Motomaro together (first time for this one), they BOTH are doing poorly. The other three boxes are growing beautifully, tall, lush and full. But in this one, especially the Motomaro, the leaves are all curled, leather-like and knarly, it's thin and skimpy, not tall at all and just not pretty. The cher. purple is only a little better: thin, short not full/lush like the others. I must admit that the Motomaro was the only plant that I purchased at a Japanese flower store in a Japanese mall, if that makes a difference. I'm wondering if I should just pull & toss both of these out and start fresh with another Cher. Purple and something else. The other three boxes are 2' taller, yet all planted on the same day, same time. Thanks much. I can take and post a pic if necessary.

Could be lots of things, but I would change the dirt out and
wash the container with a bleach solution before refilling it.

Sounds like you brought something in with the Motomaro. I'd bag both plants and toss them in the trash, then follow Dice's suggestion about the container.
