Anybody know what kind of bug this is?
 

I just noticed these bugs on my orange tree. I'm hoping they are ladybug larvae, but they don't seem to match any of the photos of larvae I've seen. The tree was totally infested with aphids this year, so hopefully nature is taking it's course. They seem to be attached to the leaves, and don't move. Weird.

Yep, ladybug in the pupal stage. That's why it doesn't move. You're gonna be a parent soon!

Thanks puzzley, that's good news! We were getting worried about all the aphids on the tree, and I was getting ready to spray. There looks to be hundreds of these little ladies waiting to emerge.

You're welcome, Sprout. If you have hundreds of ladybug pupae, you should get a good jump on the aphids as soon as they become adults. Just hope too many don't fly away!

Mine always appear right b4 I decide to spray. Dont' know how they know to show up, but they always do. It's a bird, it's a plane, it's super bug! :)) And as long as you have nectar producing flowers for the adults to eat as well, they should stick around.

I searched high and low for ladybugs on my tomatoes which had plenty of aphids and other critters they feed on but found not a single one so out came the sprayer. Started picking my beans which seemed to have no aphids that I could see but they had a good smattering of ladybugs. Good thing I didn't spray the beans. Maybe they will eventually move to my tomatoes and give me a little help.
