My Holy Grail- Spring Carrots

I was able to harvest some pretty good sized Spring Carrots yesterday:

I have tried in years past but the were always smaller than a pencil.

They look good enough to eat Jeff! Nice to harvest your own food. I bet they will be delicious. Steamed maybe with a little butter?

Looks great! I love the fresh crisp and sweet early carrots, but mine will not be done until in end of July. When did you sow the seeds and where did you grow them?

Nice looking carrots Jeff, you aprear to have very friable soil and by there length.

I grew them in my greenhouse. I planted out as soon as the soil was workable- late Feb. I dug down 20" or so for my greenhouse beds and filled it with good quality soil.
Next year, I will be a little more diligent when it comes to thinning out to produce even larger carrots next year.

Good looking carrots and very long. Even in my raised beds I rarely get many that long. Thinning is the one chore that if you neglect will give you too many small carrots. It is also one of the most difficult with arthritis so the past few years I have been mixing my carrot seed with old very dry coffee grounds before seeding the ground. It virtually has eliminated the need to thin later in the season. It takes a little practice to get the right mix because at first you tend to put too many seed in the coffee grounds and you still need to thin some.
