Shadow Boxing
Here are some of my Shadow Boxing:
Early Ripe ones Some are round and some are oval. There was some plant variation as well (yep I know I should have taken the picture after I weeded) |
Very nice! It looks like there is a fair amount of striping in the ripe fruit?
|
Yes indeed good striping. These early ones were down at the bottom of the plant towards the center and well covered by foliage. I will be interested to see what later ones with more sun exposure will be like. A little more blue added in would be nice.
|
Let me know if you save seeds from these...:D
|
Dang you dont have this one? I will save seed and get you some. I will have to try to save two batches...the round and the oval. Oval seems more common but not sure which it is supposed to be.
|
I'm growing out two of these, but I'm way behind you. Mine didn't go in the ground until mid-June because of later than usual nasty cold weather. They are flowering profusely, and one of the two plants has set fruit.
I can't wait, they look really great! How much do they weigh? It doesn't look like mine are going to be very large, as the buds and blossoms are on the small side. How do they taste? Robin |
Not sure of the weight. They are not big tomatoes but are larger than a cherry. Taste was good but I would guess will get better. I always feel as if the early ones are not up to full potential. It seems once the plants get larger and are into full production flavors are better and easier to define.

Beautiful!!!
|
No, that was one of the ones I missed.
The segregation from some of Tom's varieties makes things interesting. Blue Fog is the one that is showing me two distinctly different fruit types. |
I also bought Helsing ★★★★★★★★ Blues, but got zero germination. Maybe if I can get him to send me some more seed next spring, I'll try that one again. The mailer wasn't padded and things got crushed...
|
My HJB didn't germinate, either. Neither did Tania's. Hmmmm.
j |
My HJB seed looked immature, but I did manage to finally get some germination. I should have some seed available this fall.
They are huge plants! |
Helsing is a great one (sorry!) If Tom doesnt have any next year I would guess Mark and I can get you all set up with seed.
|
The first batch of HJB seeds were clearly crushed by the P.O., so Tom send me a second envelope but didn't pad that one either, and it didn't look much better. I ended up planting every seed that he sent me that looked intact, but nothing. It's the only one this year that I had no luck with...
I would appreciate some HJB seed when you have some. Maybe I have something that you guys need. Let's talk later when tomato madness (which I hope starts soon) is over! |
Mark, I have some Shadow Boxing from Tom this year for you, and if I get it to grow fruit, this year's, too. I'm sure you'll want to grow out several Fx's. Granite's, too.
Of course, I'd love some HJB, too! PM to follow.:cute: j |
