Who says you have to put the seed in the hole for it to grow.
I had this happen last year as well. Should I toss it? Ami

Next time try to read the instructions better that come with the pellets.
You are supposed to put the seed inside the pellet, not outside!

Maybe the seed is trying to run away? ;)

I'd say toss it...

... in the garden!

I bet if you transplant it into a larger container and give it a little time, everything will be fine.

Ami-no reason to dump it-just pot it up in a styrofoam cup or container of some kind. also, you may want to clip the netting around the peat pot-it could slow your plant down by restricting the roots from getting outside the peat pot.

Ami,

What was that supposed to be? I'm assuming that the seedling on the outside of the pellet is the hitch hiker, but I don't see any driver in your car:lol:..... Did the intended seed land outside the pellet, or did the seed in the pellet not sprout? Either way, I don't see any reason to destroy something so very determined to live.

Grow for it if you have the space !

Ayup, that's a good healthy seedling, just leaping at the chance to get out and produce for you! :) As long as I knew what variety it was (not a slip or stray) I'd give it a designated location in my garden; but I've always pulled for the underdog!

Ok, Hitchhiker will be repotted. Not sure which variety it is but we will see how it grows. Ami

I should say what has happened is that when you first put the seed in the hole at the top, the very next time you watered it the gush of water washed it out of the hole and down the side, where it germinated and grew- dry seeds often float out of the compost the first time you water them after sowing them.:P
