Ideas wanted: mid- to late-season DET. with good shelf life
 

I need to round out my 2021 plan with a "last" variety. It will be grown in a container, so a moderate sized determinate variety would fit this well. Lots of choices are available, but I'm looking for good shelf life. I can usually keep tomatoes until Thanksgiving, but I'd like to keep them into December. Taste is not the primary characteristic here -- it's [I]shelf life[/I]. These will be used for salads. Any suggestions?

Might as well taste great too. If you want something with a long shelf life, you could have a look at some of the new artisan seeds varieties like Agi red

It is.

I grew it in a pot and it did great. Naturally would be better in the ground but my point is you don’t have to sacrifice flavour. And all indeterminate plants can be pruned to manage size so it just expands the options significantly if you choose to take that route.

If God had meant for a beautiful indeterminant to be potted and ruthlessly pruned, why did he create determinants?

Lol. Why indeed.
Why can’t anyone make them taste good then?
Also,one could always plant an earlier variety later... so many ways to be outside the box really.

But if it’s late meh determinate tomatoes one wants, there are plenty of those. I Cant recommend any though so I’ll bow out now :)

In 2015, I grew one determinant tomato with long-term storage Ramallet Saint Llorenc des Cardassar from Mallorca. At the same time I grew a lot of those Ramallets and also the variety of the same name. Because I grow more indeterminate tomatoes, I have never grown this deterministic tomato. All I had left was a photo of an unripe green tomato.

Thanks, Vladimir, I'll look into the Ramallets. Unfortunately, I have not found too many varieties offered in the U.S. The main reasons that I indicated DET. were having a concentrated harvest and also the plant size. Hopefully someone will be able to suggest one or two more, but if not I'll probably go with Stellar. It has a plentiful, concentrated harvest and is fine for salads. It has just OK shelf life so I am hoping for better.

Roma is a compact determinate with great shelf life. I actually think it tastes really good, good aroma, just not that much sweetness if that's what you want (might also depend on what variation of it you stumble upon, I'm sure there are many).

Yes, Roma might work. It produces a large concentrated harvest, and is a smaller DET -- at least that's what I remember. In fact, I've grown quite a few paste tomato varieties, and I've yet to find one that produced the "all at once" big harvest of Roma. Thanks!
