Red Okra

For those who have grown any of the red varieties of okra, do they retain their red color when cooked or do they turn green the way purple snap beans do? Just wondering. Thanks.

Sorry I don't know, I'm growing red okra (bowling red) for the first time so interested in the answer

Im not sure either but from what I have read, they do lose their color when cooked

I have seeds for Bowling Red on the way. I guess we'll find out around the same time. Thanks.

We grow Aunt Hettie's Red okra (Victory Seeds) and it's supposed to stay red when it's fried, but we've never tried that. Using moist cooking methods, it gets more greenish, although not green like green okra or pale green like the "white" ones. Its excellent taste makes up for any color it takes on, though.
