Old Books

Here's a really cool site that I just recently found.
http://chla.library.cornell.edu/

It's a collection of Historical Agriculture Literature made
available by Cornell University.

One book in particular that I found intersting was Tomato Culture by William Warner Tracy (1907)
http://chla.library.cornell.edu/cgi/t/text/text-idx?c=chla;idno=2916374

He discusses tomato culture practices that were used over 100 years ago!
Very interesting reading.... He talks about Ponderosa, Dwarf Champion, Honor Bright, and other varieties as well.

The link above let's you download the entire text for web viewing and even contains scans of every page in the book.

Really neat stuff.

I found this because I checked out a 100 year old copy of
the book from NCSU library. It's in pretty rough shape, so I
went looking to see if it was available on the web anywhere, and viola!

Enjoy,

Lee

Thank you Lee for the great link. This looks like a great resource!

Just randomly browsing book titles published in the 1930s:

1935: "The Beginnings of Plant Hybridization"
also 1935: "A Guide to Sexing Chicks" (I have always wondered how they could do that....)
1936: "Apples of England"
And from 1934: "Chocolate Evaluation". Hmmmm.....

I'm gonna be spending some time there!

"A Guide to Sexing Chicks" (I have always wondered how they could do that....)Terry It takes a trained eye and really is a specialty.

I look forward to exploring this link.
