This thread confused me
! Do you mean that your yam tubers continues to grow more than 1 year (growing season)? I'm growing chinese yam since 2004 (received them from 3 different places, so I'm sure they are chinese yam) and they are like the potatoes - each year the mother tuber dies and new is formed.

I'm growing them as pole beans on long sticks (vines reach 5+ m.). But do not ask me how I'm digging them
, they are so deep and so brittle, and my soil is not sandy...
