Some tomato genotypes show marginal leaf scorch when grown in artificial media. This is apparently some sort of toxicity associated with the growing mix. The symptoms go away on newly developed leaves after the transplants are put out into regular field soil. If it shows up on all varieties you are growing, it could be salt burn from excess nutrients accumulating on the leaf margins.
