My local hydroponic store is my new best friend. This year I invested $20 in a heat mat, I'm sure that made a big difference this year. 5 day germination as opposed to 10.

Maybe they think it and maybe we are nuts but I think my neighbors like the tomatoes too much to say it to my face.
I've got a heat mat, too, but it doesn't have a thermostat and I need to move the plants on and off/raise them up above it a bit depending on the time of day because the sun and wood stove can cause the temps to rise too high inside of those plastic covered trays. So far I only planted 3 varieties of tomatoes and 2 of them sprouted in 5 days but none of the third type are up yet on day 10 so I'll probably plant some more seed for that one soon.
Let me know if you find the perfect one this year.
