This year, we have 13 surviving Volunteer tomato plants growing. The ones in the sun and inside the garden are doing really well. They all have tomatoes on them, are 5+ foot tall / 4 foot wide, and without doubt come from last year's Porter's Pride and Cherokee stock.

However, along the garden fence, there are 5 plants that are under 4 feet tall and are way thinner in growth but are still healthy looking. The fences that they are growing close to are on the two sides of our garden that are shaded. I'm guessing that birds sitting on the fence provided those seeds.

The Volunteer tomatoes started growing about 30-or-so days after we planted the plants we bought. What I am wondering is if the shaded volunteer tomato plants might start producing sometime in Autumn? They are still growing, and with today's unsuspected (Not Forecasted) 4-3/4 inches of rain over 14 hours...is there any hope for those plants to produce?
