Hey Rena,
No personal experience with growing in Georgia, but, I did learn something new today. These are the tubers of a species of Helianthus, or Sunflower. Apparently they grow in all but the coldest areas of the West. I would think that they would grow in your neck of the woods if most other Helianthus grow over there.
