Depends on your indoor seed starting temperature and your plant out date. I usually aim to plant my onion plants out in early/mid April. I grow my seedlings in my basement where it is cool (~60F). Last year my onion seedlings were a little smaller than I had wanted, so I moved up from Jan. 25 to Jan. 10 this year. I would think a good rule of thumb is 10 weeks before your
plant out date. If you are growing seedlings cool like mine, you may want to add a couple weeks.
Without knowing your climate, I would guess your plant out date for onions is similar to mine, if not a little earlier, so it might be about that time.
