This allows the wood to shrink and swell in two directions.
It also insures both sides of the room will have the same narrow boards you have to cut.
This makes it look professional.
Before I started I did what they called racking this allows you to sort out all of the wood and get it ready to nail.
All you have to do is use the nail gun hammer to drag the flooring about 4 inches into its new spot.
Any boards that are warped a little I used a long 2X4 against the wall and a wedge and hammer.
As I got each row done I would saw off a little of the board as I needed to.
The hard part is drilling and hand nailing all of the flooring next to the walls.
It is a frigging ton of work.
It cost me around $1,000 to do it myself.
A real bargain compared to what it would have cost to pay someone to do it.
I also put down vapor barrier.

Good professional job, Worth.. My brother and I have laid thousands of feet over the years. Here is a tip we have learned to to deal with warped boards. We use a large screwdriver as a lever to pull those boards into place. Simply drive it into the subfloor and pull the board into place, then nail. This never fails and is fast!
