The microbes on that stem are still active.
You will want to spray the whole plant with 9 parts water to 1 part hydrogen peroxide.
The measurements don't have to be very accurate.
Spray the soil down good too.
Then spray every now and then till the top part of the plants take root.
I have saved several this way.
