Many of my "first fruits" hold such great promise in their looks but disappoint in taste. But, the taste and texture will change over time. It also seems like some of the most intense flavors are produced by the driest conditions.

I totally agree with your assessment, I guess the black varieties fell victim to the wet/cold summer.
