Nan, it will be easier to show you why the temporary cages are just that, but it's night... I will take/show a picture tomorrow. The cages that are in use were made to be used in a regular garden planted in dirt/soil. I cut the wires so that the cages could be pushed into the ground giving the cage a few inches short of being 4' tall. That was tall enough for most tomato plants planted in-ground.
Container gardening does not work with those cages. 5 gallon buckets are 15 inches tall - that wastes 15 inches of the cages.
