About 90 varieties will be going in my mom's, grandma's, and other friends' and families' gardens as well as my home garden plot. The remaining 275 open-pollinated slicer varieties I will be trialing in giant 100 foot rows. The goal of the project is to discover which tomato varieties appeal to me. I will save seeds from all varieties that produce ripe tomatoes, for genetic preservation, but in the future I will only grow out the varieties that I prefer for vigor, aesthetic appeal, and flavor. Its not only a trial among a large diversity of varieties, but it will also be a trial within each population of a given variety as each seedling in a cluster of plants will compete to be the dominant vine out of the group.
