Speaking of rain going around. My husband did a construction job years ago in a place called Tonganoxie and he is a GC. When he had to have concrete poured he would check the weather and want to cancel the trucks due to approaching rain. But a local guy on the job would say dont worry about the rain, this is the Tonganoxie split and the rain splits and goes around us. The local legend was that Indian spirits protected the area from severe weather that plagued some nearby areas. And sure enough every time it did miss them. We always joke about that when the rain misses us now, we say oh we are in the tonganoxie split! You can google it. Its a real legend but I think the myth was busted when years later a tornado leveled the area.
