Default Potato Digging Day

Since the potato plants were dying back, Pickles dug up the first two hills of Yukon Gold yesterday to see what was what and she unearthed 5 lbs of nice taties! So we went out this morning around 8am while the temp was just 74 and dug the rest of the row.

The 18' row yielded a total of 14 lbs of Yukon Golds and 22 lbs of Red Pontiacs, including the ones that Pickles dug up yesterday. They are all now in trays in a cool closet. They stored pretty good there last year.

Last year we grew two 11' rows, one of Yukons and one Pontiac, and got 55 lbs total (average 2.5 lbs/row foot). Too much for two people so this year we grew one 18' row (half Yukon, half Pontiac) and got 36 lbs total (2.0 lbs/row foot). Considering that row got frostbitten several times and then sat in standing water a while, I'm amazed at what we actually got!
