I used to soak alfalfa pellets in a 5 gallon bucket with molasses and water for a few days/ 2 weeks, stirring it everyday. Kept it in the sun, and howdy! it sure stunk!!
But my trees and roses loved it dearly and did quite well with it, the neighbors not so well for a day or so.
