I have been Googling this very topic recently. Some sources claim it's easier to overwinter hot peppers than sweet peppers. Additionally, some hot peppers are supposedly easier to overwinter than others (e.g. habaneros vs. jalapenos).
I hope to try it this year as an experiment.
