Welcome to the South. During spring, fall and winter it is not that unusual to see vast temperature changes in a very short time. Wait til you get one of our sudden temperature drops in the spring when everything is blooming and you are absolutely sure that winter is over. It doesn't happen often but when it does it can devastate your garden and any fruit trees you have. My usual plant out date for tomatoes is the first week of March but I have put them out as early as mid February and as late as the end of April and once they all got killed even set out that late. Of course once summer really sets in you can be pretty sure that it will remain hot and humid with little respite for way too long.
