My $45 winter cold shelter
I build a cold shelter out of rescued windows and a storm door to overwinter my peppers. Walls are simply two layers of plastic sheeting. Two light bulbs keep the inside temperature about 5 degrees above ambient temperature.
At night, I shovel some embers from my fireplace into a metal pail, and set it inside, where it keeps the internal temp about 10 degrees above ambient temps.
I have a heater inside for temps below 25 degrees.
This will keep about 120 plants in containers alive through the 12 weeks of the Georgia winter.
