It's definitely for shelf life for me. I do think they have decent taste for a store tomato, though I don't expect them to replace any of my favorite black heirlooms. If being grown in garden conditions improves flavor, I will be thrilled! I will pay attention to DTM for mine, and if grown in future years, will try to time transplants to ripen late, so they can be brought in green and ripen in the house to extend my fresh tomato season long after frost. I am also growing Piennolo Del Vesuvio for the same reason. At least that's the plan!
