We grow them down here in 10 b. For us it seems when starting a new plant from seeds the first harvest sucks. No real bragging rights. But overwintering for us is putting it under some trees, throw loose straw ,chop it down almost to ground, wait till our spring( now) pull them out recontainer ,fresh medium amendments then all he’ll seems to break loose. Some will grow to 5 /6 foot. That super hot curve is over now,we just do the commodity peppers for cooking, seasoning etc.My nephew weedeated a plant not knowing, came back gangbusters.Eventually down here something finds them,a bug,a fungas( rainy season) some kind of something.Peppers can and will take a beaten.
