Tromboncino is a solid stem
C. moschata that can be used as a summer squash/zucchini type when young or a winter squash if left to mature. Also a great conversation starter when grown to full length!
I've tried wrapping stems in aluminum foil, but not the tanglefoot or spinosad treatments. All great ideas, along with getting bush style plants started under row cover.
