On June 28, 1914 Austro-Hungarian Monarchy entered into the armed conflict that became World War I. Austro-Hungarian Monarchy belonged to the peoples of these later countries:
Austria + Hungary + Czechoslovakia + Jugoslavia. Multinational colossus (different religion, different language, different culture). Hence the gradual disintegration.
