We fed ours the same slop we fed the hogs plus laying mash oyster shell and the bugs they ran around eating.
The slop consisted of curdled milk old bread and vegetable scraps.
Plus they got to peck on the melon rinds.
The yolks were dark UT burnt orange.
Chickens are scavengers to some degree they will eat almost anything but they will or at least I haven't ever seen one on a dead smelly carcass like a vulture does.
Maybe a small dead snake or lizard every now and then one chasing the other around for it.
