I've left the pot top edge surround on and around cucurbit seedlings during some speed planting...you know, getting dark, gotta-get-them-in-and-walk-away-drill. Dark with a rain storm doom and gloom approaching. I put so many extra 'insurance' seeds in the same hill that i can't say it works. Made sense at the time.
