From experience it does take 2. I had only one in my garden once and the only thing it produced all season long was one tomatillo. I think it pollinated at the nursery. The crazy thing was when I went back and told the nursery owner that I needed 2 he stated he did not know that..Hmmm.
I do not know about taking cuttings. Have not tried it before. I am sure others will know better
