Jeanne,

Are you using bean/pea inoculant? This is a type of beneficial bacteria; in this case a bacteria known as rhizobia.

Dampen the seeds with a light mist of water, then put the beans in a shallow tray. Sprinkle the inoculant over the beans, and stir to get a light coating of the powder on each bean, then plant as usual.

You can but this at garden centers and online. I buy mine from Johnny's. Because the bacteria have a short lifespan, it's always best to use it before the expiration date on the package.

Makes a huge difference in my garden. I wouldn't bother planting peas, beans or any other legumes without it.

One last word of farewell, Dear Master and Mistress.

Whenever you visit my grave,

say to yourselves with regret

but also with happiness in your hearts

at the remembrance of my long happy life with you:

"Here lies one who loved us and whom we loved."

No matter how deep my sleep I shall hear you,

and not all the power of death

can keep my spirit

from wagging a grateful tail.
