e-mail to Bill:

Just needed to clarify something:

Last season (2007) we both grew out your F1 seeds

(This was an intentional cross from 2006 between Brandywine and NAR)

Our saved seeds from 2007 produced PL & RL varieties this growing season 2008: and these are F2's

Saved seeds from tomatoes from this 2008 season will be F3's (2009) -

Unless I'm missing something - this is where we're at right ?

I hope all is well,

~ Tom

Yes.

Everyone is growing either F1 … the original cross made in 2006, or F2s … the seeds removed from the hybrid plants grown in 2007.

This is why I mailed out 24 – 36 seeds to each person who got F2s … to give them a good chance to get a good batch of PLs, because you only can get one PL per 4 seeds average.

I did not send F1 seeds out except to No. Hemisphere growers and only to you and a couple of others.

Everyone is growing F1 or F2 plants this year … or both.

By the way, we have two RL F2 plants here with huge pink tomatoes that taste great … better than the F1s.

Looks like Ami has the best F2 PL so far.
