Tom, you can add a very important one to Known-You and that's Santa F1.

Carolyn,

Thanks for posting here. In terms of Santa F-1, my guess is that Procacci Brothers has sufficient control of that variety as to make it (de facto) not listed in the KnownYou.com website. Because of the publicity of Santa F-1 on tomato forums, it has been KnownToMe and KnownToYou of the origins. ('')

If one visits either of the sites below it will illustrate that omission:

www.knownyou.com

The only hint to Santa is: Juliet, this larger sister variety of Santa.

Back to my opinions. There are many tomato varieties emerging in the attempt to have Santa types.

Santasian (E 20.32683) is but one example

A so-called 'Santa'-type for production in heated greenhouse. Sweet, chrunchy fruit.

I like how the name Santasian alludes to Santa and Fantasian.

Finding tomato varieties listed or unlisted is a game of sorts for me. I don't care if they are next to impossible to access as seed, just knowing what is out there is "Manna" to me. I always have liked to play around with F-2 seed of obscure varieties. The legality of obtaining some of these proprietary hybrids and saving seed is of increasing negation. I have chosen not to go into a lot of detail per variety. That should go to other sub forums perhaps.

I did some research on how varieties of tomatoes become listed. Europe has adopted new regulations in the last few years. Example:

Quote:
(2004/842/EC). THE COMMISSION OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES
This is concerning implementing rules whereby Member States may authorize the placing on the market of
seed belonging to varieties for which an application for entry in their national catalog of varieties of tomatoes and agricultural plant species or vegetable species has been submitted.

Sometimes you have to find lists of tomatoes that are not well published. I am including such of list of tomatoes that may have some interest in the future.

Authorizations on the marketing of varieties
Not yet officially listed according to Decision 2004/842/EC.

The varieties have data (in part) regarding:
