Andrey where I am the five nation Indian tribes made birch syrup, and some here still do to keep the tradition alive.I mean non Indians, almost forgot to say that.

I have never tasted it but may some day.

For many years two locals have tapped my sugar maple trees and made syrup and when my brother and family still lived up here before they moved to NC he did as well.

The best story I can share about maple syrup is the following.

If I were to drive down a hill to the hamlet of Shushan,on the right there was a telephone pole that always had several buckets hanging from it and yes, only when it was sap collecting time. As others who lived near this man said the man would come out take the covers off the buckets and it looked like they were heavy as he struggled to take them back of his house.

Some actually believed others knew that telephone poles around here are DEAD, as in RIP.

My brother often reads here at Tville and if he sees this he cannot only confirm it but probably name that man since he lived up the hill from Shushan himself before he and family moved to NC.
