Ordering Potatoes from SSE Yearbook

Has anyone ordered from the SSE yearbook potatoes?

I am considering ordering from ME BO W, who is the conservator of potatoes for SSE it appears.

How many potatoes does one usually receive?

I am wondering, because I am planning out my garden size and need to estimate space requirements. I am guessing 4-6 small potatoes for each variety ordered.

I requested a few potatoes from ME BO W last year. He sent 4-6 small potatoes for each variety requested. Each tuber was big enough to have at least 2 eyes. Hope that helps!

Did you cut those potatoes in half then?
So you planted around 10 per request?

What spacing do you plant your potatoes?

I have no idea if this is the best method, but it seems to work for me.

Tubers that were golf ball sized or larger were cut in half and then planted. Smaller tubers were planted whole. I'd say I had about 6-8 plantings for each variety requested.

I do double rows with 12" spacing. (So, 12" between plants, and 12" between the two rows.) For SSE varieties, I tend to plant in blocks with a barrier crop between (usually beans) so that similar varieties don't accidentally get mixed at harvest time.
