Pole Beans - counterclockwise?

So, most everywhere I look it says pole beans will twine counterclockwise in the Northern hemisphere. Only a few mention perspective - saying that it is when viewed from above. Is this the correct way to determine?

If this is correct, when one is referring to the direction in which a bean twines, shouldn't it be from the perspective of the twining bean, rather than the gardener? Just sayin....

Pole beans twine clockwise as seen from above.
Runner beans twine anti-clockwise

edited - My bad. What I said above is backwards. Ooopsie!

My White Half Runners went both ways, both around the poles and when spiraling along the strings in between. I must have had seed contaminated with some Southern Hemisphere seeds and the dang things didn't know which way to go.

My poles want to go counter-clockwise (viewed from above). I've tried to train them otherwise, but they untwine.

All of them, about 60 varieties, 500 or so plants, pole and half-runners.

Wow! That's some serious bean production. How many pounds of beans do you anticipate in a decent year?
