dried up blossoms
what would cause all the blossoms on the upper part of the tomato plants to just start drying up and not producing fruit?

Turning yellow at the ends and falling off.
That is called blossom drop and is due to heat and humidity. If this is not what your are getting at please forgive me. Worth |

Many of mine are drying up, not turning yellow, and not falling off. Others are having regular blossom drop. Something seems to be going around this year in my area, its either the weather or the abundance of fungal problems.
Too many plants have too few fruit. The ones that have a lot of fruit are also the ones that seem to be having so many foilage problems that the fruits that are ripening haven't had enough photosynthesis to produce much flavour. |

Blossom Drop is also caused by lack of pollination and there are many variables associated with that that include weather, available pollinators due to weather, too cold temps and on and on.

thanks , ya the weather has been going up and down a lot, it's been in the 80's here the last 5 days, before that it would go from 90, down to 60's at night, all over the board up and down, i've only had 2 bumble bees that I've seen, but they seemed to be doing their job. looking at them again a few have very tiny fruits starting, the blossoms don't seem to be falling off though. maybe I'm jumping the gun here, they just seemed to go from nice plump looking blossoms , to terrible looking. lol could just be me! still waiting for red ones!

If you are talking about just the yellow flower part and not the green part then you are fine.
Forgive me if I dont know all of the fancy names for the parts. Worth |

Have you tried Texas Tomato Food? That stuff gave me blossoms like crazy, and I have had great fruit set.

The reason for not getting pollinated is puzzling to me.
I have a variety (Dwarf Pink Passion) with just one fruit on each truss, no more, no less, similarly is CP. I have a feeling that the plant is just being selective as how many to grow. I have a Willamette, with 25 fruits on one truss ( I counted today). Nothing is missing. So I am thinking that it is not due to growing conditions. I could be wrong. Gardeneer. |
