Default My Aussie Season

The 2021/22 Tomato Season is a distant memory now with all plants pulled, with a less than perfect season following lots of Spring rains putting the brakes on here. We've had enough tomatoes to satisfy our needs, with a stand out or two and a few disappointments, with a poor seed saving season, the rain hindering pollination in the organza bags.

Not to be too disappointed I grew my F2 Macalister, which I had crossed in 2019 season. It's from a red Romanian tomato and Sweet Ozark Orange and I managed a lovely tasting yellow fruit and a pink fruit, which was well received here.

Adding 3x photos of Macalister

Very nice

The first one looks a bit like Uluru Ochre.

Thank you MrsJustice.

Our biggest disappointment was the multicolor Dingo Eye. I reached out to a fellow grower who chased me up some seeds for these hard to find tomatoes, but the first few fruits had very few seeds and it took two tomatoes to get enough seeds to return the favor and seeds back to him.

No fruit was eaten for Dingo Eye, Abraham Brown or Rosedale, which was a shame, but another year another variety. I still have some untried varieties of seed, plus some growouts, who knows, maybe we'll get a normal growing season next year.

Here are a few other varieties grown here this season, with the Arctic Fancy our best producer of small red fruits. We don't grow red cherry tomatoes here, but got a red Japanese Pink Cherry from two plants grown. They were a good tasting cherry but doubt they'll get a spot in our garden. Others were Lithium Sunset and Cherry Brownies.

Yes- Japanese Pink is very unstable! I have an F4 i think of a Japanese Red I am trying to stabilize. I find it quite good! Interesting you got one too. I am wondering if they were from my original Japanese Pink seeds from MMMM?

Heide - Yes, they were your seeds, but not sure if F4 or not.

What I will say is that they are good tasting and a good producer, with the plant over 8ft tall.

Now this makes sense . Your reds are F1 I think. I am several generations ahead in stabilizing so hold tight friend. 3 more years until I can introduce something new! HA!
