Default collaborator needed: empty de colgar

I found, what I believe is a cross between an unknown stuffing tomato (empty) and a "de colgar" type (alc gene).

Even if it's not the most logical combination, why not? I want to see what comes out ... It will be interesting and might be useful. Even if it doesn't store for one year, some weeks shelf life would be useful, and that sounds very feasible.

I don't have time ... anybody willing to play with this one? Should be a fairly easy project as basically only two genes need to be set.

Ilex by "empty" I assume you mean what we would refer to as "hollow"?
(The difference between "vacío" and "hueco")

Long storage is alc, a recessive. It also affects colour and aroma. Easiest way is to leave some tomatoes in a box. Those that last longer have two copies of this gene. Wait 3 months more or less. If they store that long, gene is set.

Those that have only one copy have longer shelf life than those that don't, but in no way close to those that have two. I take seed of "de colgar" tomatoes after 4-5 months in storage. If I wait longer I would need to skip a season to sow and do seed swaps.

Hollow is one dominant gene. You can cull those that are not hollow, and with enough generations you'll be sure at 99%. Best way is to grow a few plants from each mother, and cull those lines that show any non hollow plants. When a line shows all hollow plants, you know the gene is set.
