Sungreen F1 x Lucky Tiger
An example of "I don't know what I don't know". This is one of several examples of a F! phenotype not expected based on the parental phenotypes. Sungreen F1 is a large gwr cherry and GD2 (a sister line to Lucky Tiger) is a striped GWR bicolor grape. The F1 fruit is red streaked with green outside and in. The stripes in a gs/+ fruit can vary significantly based on genetic background - but this shows stronger striping than I normally see. Since this is essentially a three way cross - the F1's will be segregating, but fruit phenotype was similar in both F1 plants I had in the greenhouse this winter.
I post this particularly as a watchout for those that are growing some of the new F1's I recently sent out. The stranger the color combos in the parents, the more suprises I'm finding in the F1 fruit phenotypes. My descriptions are only best guesses. Whoops, unable to download photo - I'll try later Last edited by frogsleap farm; February 20, 2014 at 06:31 PM. Reason: add photo |

Here's the photo, or I guess not. Not sure what my problem is, I'll try and tackle it later when I have more time.

Very pretty. How do they taste?
I could see your picture when I clicked on larger version then clicked again as it was coming up. Susan |

I had to open the image in a new window - not sure what's going on? These were produced in the greenhouse - but flavor was very good.

hi frogsleap -
I am growing out F2 Sungreen this year and they are six weeks from fruiting, so I'm curious if I see any reds. I grew out another GWR hybrid, Green Envy, last year and they were pink. I like the looks of the one you have. Interesting. Lee |

This is the first to ripen of the several F2's I'm growing out this year. This is the earliest ripe tomato I've harvested in the ten years I've been in MN at Frogsleap Farm.
