Fungal Disease

Yesterday, the produce manager at Food City said that his suppliers had stopped shipping all lettuce/greens/cabbage products due to a "fungal disease". He did not know what specific disease, but was visually agitated by the fact he could not supply his customers and his shelves were looking pretty bad.

He told us about the fungal disease when we asked if he stocked Arugula, which he DID NOT have (because of the fungal disease).

Anybody else heard anything on this???

Or did we get a line of extreme BS to hide his incompetence???

I started some Ferry Morse seeds for Arugula and those babies have literally JUMPED out of the mix.

Looks like there is some truth to what he said. Sclerotinia fungus!

I never had any fungus on lettuce in the garden, but I see there are other fungal diseases that attack lettuce.

I have wild arugula growing wild (self-seeding weed) in one
garden bed that I have gone to mostly bottomless buckets for
growing in (to get plants up above the nearby raspberries,
get a better angle above a neighbor's garage, etc), and the
arugula plants have never shown any signs of any disease of
any kind.
