Broccoli
http://www.durgan.org/URL/?NAWUQ 10 April 2014 Repotting Broccoli
Eight broccoli plants were purchased and moved to larger pots. This will enable the roots to enlarge and the plants will be strong and healthy when planted in the outdoor garden in about one month. Broccoli thrives in cooler weather. |

I just got my last cutting of broccoli side shoots today. I'm a little tired of it now because I have been eating it since December with staggered plantings starting in early fall. It has been in the low 90s for the last few days so I can stick a fork in it now cause it is done.
Durgan I hope you have really good luck with yours this season. For me now it is time to concentrate on tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash and a little later even some okra. It will be a long time before I have fresh broccoli again and by then I'll be drooling for it like I am for tomatoes and peppers now. Bill |

I'm gonna try spring broccoli this year. It usually gets too hot here but this year I'm gonna try earlier. Gonna plant seed tomorrow and plant out in 3 or 4 weeks.

For those that have trouble with broccoli, again Alan may be easier. It tastes a lot like broccoli but you eat the leaves and small flower heads. I love the stuff!

Sounds like it might be like the RAAB - Di Rapa broccoli I grow. It's a non-heading variety that grows in clumps on shoots and you can harvest it all season long. I also Calabrese Green Sprouting which is a heading type.

Thanks Dutch. I've grown the raab in the past, I like the sprouting brokali types best. In hindsight I probably didn't plant the raab dense enough.

The following info may help folks search;
"Rapini (commonly marketed in the United States as broccoli raab or broccoli rabe) is a green cruciferous vegetable. The edible parts are the leaves, buds, and stems. The buds somewhat resemble broccoli, but do not form a large heads." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rapini

https://www.jungseed.com/dp.asp?pID=...Hybrid+Brokali
This is the stuff I've grown for about 4 or 5 years now. It starts producing at the very end of May into early July depending on how hot it gets. I sow them Early March and plant out mid to late April depending on the year. |

I checked it out Justin. Good information on, Apollo Hybrid Brokali, which is a cross between Calabrese heading, which I like and already grow and Chinese Kale.
Thanks again! Dutch
