This morning my wife called to me from the patio "You have to see this and bring the camera!" So to the patio I go and low and behold the Scarlet Runner beans are beginning to flower and open up acolorful bright red , I also saw that the Shi★★★★o peppers are actually developing tiny peppers some almost 3" long. Then I checked the cukes there flowering as well and my sweet 100 tomato plant fruits are starting to ripen, my contender bush bean plant has a lot of beans forming to but the pole beans are still reaching for the sky, gonna be a busy guy here in a few short weeks

I hope you have good luck with your scarlet runners. The one time I grew them, they flowered, but I don't think they ever put on a bean.

LOL! That's the same reason I grew them!

That's why I keep growing them too. They really do love the flowers and pollinate them.

Do all of you sow new runner beans each year or overwinter your plants instead? Here in Ireland we usually sow new ones, but I have one plant I've overwintered for nearly a decade.

Hatgirl my plan is to save the seeds from this year (That's if I manage to get some bean production) and then use them for next years plantings.

Overwintering has happened here but is not reliable year after year. Tree roots have taken over my garden area so I grow them in pots now where the roots freeze and die. |
