Yes. Bt is short for Bacillus thuringiensis. The Thericide product name comes by combining "thuri" from thuringiensis and "cide" meaning "kill".
I use it on my kale and have found it very effective. |

I inject it undiluted into my squash stems and kill the squash vine borer larvae.
It can be mixed with water and sprayed on foliage to kill chewing caterpillars. |

Takes care of tomato hornworms in a jiffy. A second spraying a few weeks later is usually all that's needed.

I've thought about doing this and picked up some farm syringes a couple years ago. If you don't mind: Do you wait until there is some sign of infestation? Just inject it further up on the stem and let it flow down or multiple injection sites? Do multiple injections through the season? Jeff |

I have used Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) in the past to control horn worms, and also small worms that attack, and put holes in my maters. This year it has been really wet, and yes cold for a un-typical Texas spring. I have not been able to get out to the mater garden to spray until last week. I have picked approx 25 maters (cherokee purple, stump of the world),and all but 5 maters are damaged w/ worm holes. Some of the holes are rather large.....more like caterpillar sized hole damage almost 1/4 in dia. This is not bird damage, but worm damage. I know the difference. I have not found the old BT, but instead the garden stores are selling Thuricide. The label says Thuricide BT. I assume it's the same thing. I hope it works.....tired of the worm holes.
As a side note I planted two big beef tomato plants for a change this year. I used to grow big beef for my main mater crop until I joined Tomatoville, approx 15 years ago. I have grown nothing but heirlooms since. I have picked two big beefs, and no worm damage.....goes to show you..........heirlooms taste better...just ask the worms |

I inject my squash stems before the plants are infected. I usually inject again in a couple of weeks if I remember. they usually get infected later in the season anyway but this helps them to live longer.

Just in case anyone is interested. It seems Thuricide is the same as BT, or it does just as good of job controlling worms, as well as Catterpillars. I picked 12 worm free tomatoes today. Not a worm hole in any of them. Perfect tomatoes. Thank goodness!!!
