extra grafted tomato plants
hey there south florida tomato lovers! sorry i missed the tomato gathering but my grafting experiments went down the tubes and i had nothing to show for it. the good news is that i've refined my miami grafting techniques and things are going so well i'll probably have extra grafted tomato plants to give away if anyone's interested. I used supernatural root stock (from johnny seeds) and a variety of scions - top gun, green vernisage, jasper, aunt lou, illinois, hazelfield, mikado. not sure how many or who's gonna make it. i have room for 3 more plants in my own garden and some of the above i have multiples...... if you have any interest and can pick up near the aventura mall area, let me know!

Mine are all planted, or I would take you up on that in a heartbeat! This is an extremely generous offer, considering the cost of rootstock seeds, and the time and effort it takes to do this.

That's a great offer! I'm just a few states too far north.
Please share what you did to improve your grafting. I'm pretty well dependent on grafting due to bad bacterial wilt in my area. Grew Aunt Lou's Underground Railroad for the first time and really enjoyed it. For me, it was somewhat late but then produced really well. Jeff |

grafting tips
my biggest improvements came from using a cutting tool from johnnyseeds which really helped me make uniform angles on all the rootstock and scions. here in miami, my first batch all died because i kept it too humid. now i put the dome on the tray with one little spray on the roof and leave it alone. i remove the dome every so often and smell to see if theres any fungus. if there is i clean it with a soap cleanser. i pretty much follow the johnnyseeds grafting protocol, 24 h of darkness followed by a weak desktop grow light for a few days.

I'm really interested in the grafting technique. Is this the first time you did it? Have you grown grafted plants before in the Florida soil/sand?'
So for newbies, the tool is essential then. Post pictures of your plants. That is a really nice offer too. |

The tool really helps. I grow in a 4x12 box on the ground. I use potting mix and bagged compost/earthworm castings but have a bad nematode problem because they come up from the ground soil. https://imgur.com/gallery/ju5rUQB

Barb, if you're looking at the possibility of grafting spend some time going through the grafting threads. Here's the 2017 thread with a lot of great info - http://www.tomatoville.com/showthread.php?t=43633 There was also a 2018 thread - http://www.tomatoville.com/showthrea...=Grafting+2018 |
