Default Some nice ones are coming in now.

These were the nicer toms from this morning. The tape measure gives a size reference with a foot of it sticking out.

From left to right...

Front row - Bosnian Old Style, Cherokee Purple, Giant Belgium
Back row - Bosnian Old Style, KBX, Giant Belgium

The CP have been coming in for several weeks now and have gotten MUCH better. They were watery and bland at first due to all the rain this year. You'll see in the second picture that a couple CP went for my lunch.

We've had several KBX which have also gotten better lately. This will be my first time trying the GB and BOSNN. If nothing else the BOSNN has been a beautiful vigorous plant and though it hasn't set many fruit (I fault the weather and myself for that not the plant) the ones it has are all large and gorgeous.

Several of these have dates with crispy bacon over the next couple of days. I'll let you all know if it seems like love at first bite...

The BOSNNs are particularly beautiful, George! I hope none of them disappoint at the table.

Good for you George!
By the way, I never got a solid answer on control for Strawberry sap beetles. Apparently not a big issue on Long Island.

Nice pictures! I've only gotten one ripe Cherokee Purple so far and I wasn't too impressed with the flavor. The plant has a lot more fruit on it, so I'm glad to hear they improve!

I'd love to hear how Giant Belgium tasted.

I'll report back when I try one. Possibly tomorrow. I just couldn't see cutting into more than one this evening.

The BOSNN was on the menu this evening. It was as delicious as it was pretty. It had rather small locules and not many seeds. It was tart and not overly sweet, meaty and not overly juicy. I don;t know that I could ask much more from a tomato than this one delivered. I suspect that like me, the taste would bring back memories of tomatoes from years gone by. Many would probably describe the flavor as "old fashioned". Nestled in with the bacon and mayo it was just perfect.

I received four seeds last year from KYGreg. They were some of the original seed he got from Tatiana. Only one germinated for me. Boy am I glad for that one seed! This will be a repeat performer in my garden.

I live near you and I have been incredibly pleased by my Cherokee Purple (only one plant, seed from SSE). Everybody's taste is different and the season parameters matter so hold out some hope!

Beautiful pics, Rebel!!!

I was having a tomato sandwich for breakfast this morning. The one I was eating was Giant Belgium and I realized I had never gotten back about it.

It has a firm texture, not overly seedy yet quite juicy. It is a bit sweeter than I usually look for but I enjoyed it as it does have some initial tartness. Overall a good attractive tomato. Still, I will probably give it next year off in favor of trying some other new varieties.

Are you growing or planning to grow it? Also, how are your CP coming along?

Looks great! Probably about 2 weeks before I get any real produce. Hope they will be that nice.
How's productivity of the Old Bosnian? Looks like a nice tomato.

Unless I errored on the name, the seeds I sent were Bulgarian Old Style No Name. Some great looking tomatoes in your photo.

My apologies folks. The grey matter is not retrieving as well as it used too. As Greg indicates this is indeed Bulgarian, NOT Bosnian. I also seem to have confused this in more than one way. Looking back at Greg's original posting and at Tatiana's ... this is "Old Sort" NOT "Old Style". Carolyn indicated that the original source sent seed to her and Tatiana with two names, Bulgarian Old Sort and Bulgarian No Name. Thus "Bulgarian Old Sort No Name".

At this point the plant is about 6 1/2 feet. It seems comparable in size and vigor to the ARGG I have growing. So far I have gotten four from this plant. The one in the picture is the largest but I estimate the other three were all >= 1 lb+. Prodution is relatively poor for all my plants this year due to weather (too cool and too wet followed by too hot and too wet). Fruit set has been quite limited. Just over the last couple weeks the plants have set some more. This evening I counted ten more set on this plant.

I don't expect the later fruits to do as well as the first ones though as I am getting into my annual stinkbug problems. Still they should be respectable slicers and that is my very favorite use for a tomato! (for more BLT's of course )

Thanks again for sharing your seed Greg. At this point, this is a definate keeper for me. I will be saving seed and try to increase my supply of them to pass along next year.
